The Human Factors in Complex Systems event will run on 7-8 June 2016 in Nottingham, UK and is organised by the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics & Human Factors (CIEHF) and the UK University of Nottingham.

What is a ‘complex system’ and how can we understand more about the human role within complex systems? You may have well formed ideas about complex systems or, like many of us, you may be struggling to understand what complexity is and what the distinguishing features of a complex system are. Much has been written in the literature about complexity emergence, system boundaries and adaptation, but what does this all mean in practice for our work as ergonomists or human factors specialists?

What can you add to discussions and debate at this event? What has happened in your field of work in the last few years and what’s over the horizon?

The conference will bring together academics and practitioners working in diverse areas such as transport, healthcare, manufacturing and defence. In the two day programme there will be opportunities to present papers or posters and take part in panel discussions. You will be able to discuss and debate the latest research and ideas on relevant topics, including:
– automation
– data and systems
– design of technologies and systems
– future systems
– methodology and complex systems
– modelling / simulation of people in systems
– safety, risk and resilience

Submissions are invited in two forms:
1. Abstracts of up to 500 words, to be selected for oral or poster presentation.
2. Panel proposals of up to 300 words, including a list of proposed panel members.

Papers may take the form of novel human factors research contributions, practice-based case studies, or critiques of theories and methods. Successful abstracts will be published in a conference booklet.

So don’t forget, the deadline for submissions is 31st January 2016, via the online form at http://bit.ly/1PVXvcF.

Please check the event website at www.hf-complexsystems.org.uk for all further details as they become available, including how to book.
